Why Reddit audio is a special case
Reddit stores video and audio for v.redd.it posts as two separate streams. A naive download produces a silent file. Any working integration must fetch both streams and merge them, which is why this platform needs its own handling rather than the generic direct-file path.
Cross-posts and external links
Many Reddit posts link to another website rather than hosting the video themselves. In that case the media belongs to the other platform and its rules apply.
